One of my 2008 projects (in addition to learning to spin records) was to clean up my iBook. I’m running out of space. I have thousands of pictures, most in triplicate copies, so I spent months combing through every file, even purchasing a massive hard drive for back up. When I finally finished, I was shocked to discover I barely made a dent. I created ONE GIG of free space. The problem wasn’t my moronic photo habits – it was my music!
After essential applications, music files consume 95% of my hard drive. And I can’t delete them. I’ve grown so attached to those mp3s with their blips and beeps and coordinating iTunes art. Countless hours went into organizing my collection, the same loving attention a mother gives to naming her first born. And second and fourth — and how many DJ mixes do I need anyway?
I have three options: 1) upgrade my laptop, 2) purchase the biggest iPod exclusively for music storage, or 3) delete immediately unnecessary music files and learn to use CDs. (Yes, even my 40G iPod is overflowing.) For now, I’ll carry on with my regularly scheduled podcasts and music purchases and forget I ever saw the warning flash across my screen. DISK SPACE ALMOST FULL.
And what better way to get a music habit under control than to exploit it? So, welcome to my music blog, where I plan to not only shamelessly plug my flawless taste, but also discuss the music happenings (or not so happenings) in Boston. Because the world needs another self important music blog.
